5460 BWM caged products delivered to Northern Ireland dealerships

Business is on the up for the BMW Group (UK) Ltd, which is reporting a 10% growth rate, with year-to-date sales for the brand reaching new heights. BMW  efforts are always directed towards the same goal: to understand their customers' needs better. The group operates a multi million pound regional distribution centre at Prologis Park, Pineham, Northampton, from where it delivers parts to BMW, Mini, Rolls Royce and BMW motorcycle dealers throughout the UK and Ireland.

The Requirement
With car sales doing well and motorcycle sales up from 7,000 to 8,000 in part due to the success of the S1000 RR and the S1000 R. BMW was looking for a reliable logistics company to make secure, daily deliveries of BMW parts on its regular run to dealers in Northern Ireland.

It chose the Woodside Group, a long-established distribution and warehousing company with an auto-logistics division providing vehicle transport, vehicle storage and fleet management services to the motor industry based in Ballynure, County Antrim. Woodsides are a  family business who apply traditional values of openness, honesty and integrity to their customers and staff.

Woodside is also a member of Partnerlink, a consortium of similarly driven independent logistics and storage companies who work together to deliver the best and most cost effective deals to customers, and to drive up and maintain standards.
The Solution
The BMW Pineham distribution centre is close to  the A43 and A45 primary trunk roads. More importantly it offers direct access to 15A of the M1, making it easy for Woodsides to access the motorway network. The daily service has a 6pm order cut-off after which the goods for delivery are picked up by the Woodside Group, it then heads off on the journey to Cairnryan on the southwest coast of Scotland to catch the ferry to Belfast.

Deliveries are made five days a week to BMW dealership sites across Northern Ireland, including Coleraine, Ballymena, Belfast and Craigavon  . The first pick-up is on a Monday and the deliveries are made on the subsequent five days.

The BMW parts are stored in two-metre roll cages with 21 cages per load. Plans are under way to introduce double-deckers, key contributors towards the UKs commitment to reducing C02 emissions on the route. This will increase the number of cages to 36 per load, which will represent a 70% increase. As well as car parts, the truck will also distribute  lifestyle clothing and watches and other similar goods to support the BMW brand. In fact, the load comprises everything down to nuts and bolts.

Voice of the customer:
Mark Phillipps, BMW’s Logistics Manager at Pineham, is full of praise for the Woodside Group’s operation. He said: "The company is doing a fantastic job. In the two years they have been working for us, they have never failed to deliver, nor missed a ferry slot, discounting times when sailings have been interrupted by bad weather.

"We are extremely pleased with the service they continue to offer us and look forward to maintaining a long and successful partnership.”
